Introduction to the Head Pro and Pro’s Tips

The Championship Course at Luttrellstown provides the golfer with both challenge and beauty in equal measure. As one is strategically plotting a good score, the abundance of wildlife and stunning natural features offer a relaxing distraction. The key to success on this course, is the accurate placement of the tee shots. The fairway bunkering is deep and penal, therefore any errand strike tends to get gobbled up, resulting in at least a dropped shot. When the tee shot is well placed, this offers the golfer an opportunity to hit the green on most holes, but this is where a new challenge begins. High trajectory approaches are required to stop the ball on sloping greens, which have rolling run off areas. Any low, or flat approach will run off the putting surface, leaving difficult up and downs. On the front nine, the areas of the course to take advantage of, are holes seven through nine, and the areas to be defensive, are holes four through six. On the back nine, watch out for the stretch between thirteen and eighteen, this finish is one of the toughest I know of. It is nice to know that holes eleven and twelve offer good scoring opportunities. I have the experience to pass on these pearls of knowledge, use them well, and maybe the golf you play will match the beauty of our thirteenth century estate,

Good Luck,

Edward Doyle,

Head Golf Professional.
